Neela Kurunji flowers of Munnar Kerala a must see phenomenon of Nature


Neela Kurunji, a bluish pink coloured wild flower of Munnar is a rare species of flower found in the Western Ghats of Kerala. Neela or Blue colour of the flower gives the name Nilgiris to this mountain. Nil or Blue and Giri or mountain. The unusual flowering of Neela Kurunji occurs once in 12 years only and that makes the phenomenon a rare sight. The mountain slopes covered in an enormous carpet of flowers is indeed a breath taking scene. The beauty is mesmerizing and allure thousands of visitors when the flowers bloom. There are specially marked walking trails to observe the gift of nature.
