Arecanut Palms are a common sight in Kerala. It is seen along with Coconut and Nutmeg plantations across the state. Arecanut is used as an ingredient in mouth refreshners and Pan Masala, a chewable concoction eaten after meals for digestion. The Palm leaves are used for various purposes and for making Palm dishes and serving plates etc. It is an eco friendly product and is exported worldwide due to its biodegradable nature. Cups, Plates, boxes and cases for soaps etc are made of the crown of Palm leaves.
