Onam festival season is the best time of the year to visit Kerala, India. Onam typically falls in the month of late August or September when the whole state is covered in a green carpet soon after the Monsoon rains. Flowers bloom in every plant and Onam Pookkalam or flower decoration thus makes sense. It is also the harvest festival of Kerala. Ladies and Children dresses in new and colourful traditional clothes sing and dance during Onam. There is festivities throughout the state, a grand lunch called Onasadya is the highlight of the event. Maveli or the King who ruled Kerala in Olden times is believed to visit Kerala during Onam.
